This complaint is regarding a family law matter involving the placement of a child. The complainant suggested that the judge was prejudiced to people of colour, visible minorities, non-Catholics, mixed marriages, and men. The complainant also suggested that the judge was unfair, showed familiarity with the complainant’s spouse, did not include all of the evidence, and allowed the spouse to miss significant days during the trial.

The evidence that was included was deemed to be insufficient because it was based on the outcome of the trial and not the judicial conduct.

The Council advised the complainant that often trials of this nature are difficult for both the judge and the individuals involved; however, the judge will ensure that they maintain unbiased. The judge will look at all of the factors involved to ensure the best interest of the child, and proceed accordingly. The complainant holds the right to pursue an appeal with the appropriate court as it falls outside of the Council’s mandate. The matter was closed.
