The Council received a complaint from an individual indicating that they wanted justice against a judge from the Superior Court of Quebec. The complaint stemmed from a family matter between a husband/son duo on one side and a wife/son-in-law duo on the opposing side. The judge was allegedly unbalanced, allowing more opportunity to the opposing side to provide evidence and use their notes, and made the complainant pay the opposing side’s legal fees.

The Council determined that the complaint was based on the outcome of the trial rather than the conduct of the judge. The complainant was advised that the Council cannot change the outcome of a decision, and that this would be a matter to take up with the courts, possibly by way of appeal. The matter was closed.
