In a high conflict family court matter, the complainant wrote to the Council expressing that during the proceedings, the judge allegedly implied that the complainant ran an abusive household, spoke badly of his ex-spouse in front of their son, was a liar, and a deadbeat father. He also claimed that the judge did not allow the opportunity for the complainant to defend himself or answer his questions, that the judge expressed herself rudely and stated that she had already decided the matter but that the complainant could try to defend himself as long as he was polite.

After a careful review of the audio recording, the Council concluded that the judge’s tone of voice was polite and well-mannered, and her discourse was professional and respectful. The judge responded to the complaint by apologizing if she sounded impatient. As the allegations made were not parallel to the audio recording and did not include credible evidence, the matter was closed.
