This complaint arose from a family law matter regarding the placement of a child. The father, the complainant, stated that the judge solely took the side of the child’s mother, was sexist and old-fashioned, and convinced the mother not to allow him to have primary care of the child.

In the Council’s response, the complainant was advised that in family matters the judge is responsible for providing service that is in the best interest of the child. From the audio-recordings of the proceeding, the Council found that the judge remained professional and respectful, and he used discretion regarding the issues raised in court. The complainant was also advised that if they are unhappy with the outcome of a court proceeding, they must appeal the decision to the appropriate appellate level. The matter was closed.
